Gas Ducted Heating

What is it ducted heating?

Ducted gas heating is one of the cleanest and most energy efficient forms of home heating. These systems are designed to heat an entire home or sections of a home.

Ducted central heating systems are made up of a central heating unit, which is connected to a series of outlets. These outlets are positioned strategically throughout your home and are installed either in the floor or ceiling.

The heating unit is installed in the roof if your house is built on a concrete slab. If your home has space underneath the floor or a very low roof line, the unit is installed under the floor or outside.

The ductwork, which connects the outlets to the heating unit, is neatly installed out of sight.

How does it work?

The heating unit draws air from inside your house into a return air grille. The air then flows into the heater where it's warmed and delivered to every room of your home via outlets.

A furnace fueled by either natural gas or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is usually located in the roof space or externally. The furnace is connected to ducting which is designed to distribute warm gentle air to every room of the house.

Whole house heating

Gas ducted heating is the most efficient way to heat your entire house. You can save up to $300* per year in operating costs to heat your entire home using a high efficiency gas ducted heater compared to using gas space heaters.

A household using gas ducted heating appliances for heating produces a third of the greenhouse gas emissions** than a household using electrical heating appliances. This makes for a more economical and environmentally friendly heating solution.

Zoning

Zoning is another way to cut down running costs on a gas ducted heating system, it can reduce running costs by up to 50%.

Zoning works by reducing the amount of heat the furnace puts out, whilst at the same time closing off the ducts to specified sections of your home, generally bedrooms from living area’s or downstairs from upstairs.

Star ratings

Every gas heating appliance sold in Australia today must be tested and certified for use by a NATA accredited laboratory. These results are used by the Australian Gas Association (AGA) to measure performance levels.

The results are listed as star rating’s these stars are a guide to the energy efficiency of an appliance, the more stars, the better efficiency rating. The top of the range efficiency achieved by 5 star gas heaters use less gas to heat your home, which means extra dollars in your pocket.

Stop before you shop

Heating and air-conditioning systems are the biggest users of energy in the home, up top 75% of the utility bill. Therefore it is vital that a ducted system is designed individually for the intended home, never buy off the shelf or from unqualified personal, as undersized or oversized systems can perform very poorly.

Only about half of the total efficiency of a gas ducted heater is the result of the equipment. The other half is the quality of the design and installation.
